Night at Strathmore (Jan 12-Feb 17, 2019)

Artists explore nocturnal themes in this year’s juried exhibition. Whether it be the night sky, darkness, or the transformative nature of nightfall, Night delves into the beauty, mystery, and sometimes phobic qualities of the hours from dusk to dawn.

Depictions of night in the 28th Annual Strathmore Juried Exhibition include representational and abstract approaches and deep darkness to contrasting starlight and streetlamps. With night as their muse, artists explore subconscious meanderings; night metaphors and symbolism; and impressions of intimacy, solitude, and nighttime gatherings.

Submissions came from 3 countries, 16 states and Washington, D.C. Works were considered through a blind jurying process by Adah Rose Bitterbaum, founder and director of Adah Rose Gallery, and Erwin Timmers, artist and co-founder of the Washington Glass Studio and School. Designations will be awarded for Best in Show, First Runner Up, Second Runner Up, and Honorable Mention at the Opening Reception. — Strathmore
